THE MAYO COUNTY BOARD has ‘unanimously decided’ to recommend a two-year extension to the current contract of manager James Horan.
The board has confirmed to TheScore.ie that the decision comes after ‘a very productive meeting’ with Horan. They will recommended to the Coiste Banistí of Mayo GAA that Horan, who guided the county to the All-Ireland Final in September, be given a two-year extension to his three-year term contract.

The announcement follows reports in the media that ‘logistical issues’, such as sorting a permanent hotel base for trips up to Dublin, needed to be resolved before Horan committed to an extension.
The board’s recommendation will go before next Monday nights’ County Board Meeting. Their statement read:
Despite unconfirmed and unwarranted reports earlier this week, the manager (James Horan) and Mayo County Board have always had and will continue to have a very good working relationship.
“The county board, along with the Mayo Senior Football Management are committed to ensuring that the senior footballers receive the best available resources and facilities in order to help them fulfil their full potential.
The Mayo Senior Team under the management of James Horan have made tremendous progress in the last two years.
“(We) are delighted to have a manager of the calibre that is James Horan and remain extremely confident that this team will realise their ultimate goal in the very near future.”
