Hook will leave Gloucester at the end of the season. Paul Harding

Welsh international Hook returning home after spells with Perpignan and Gloucester

The out-half will be back in the Pro12 from next season.

AFTER SPELLS IN France and England, James Hook is returning to the club where it all started as he agreed a three-year contract with the Ospreys.

The Wales international has opted to leave Gloucester at the end of his current deal and return to the Liberty Stadium to add to his 107 appearances and 796 points for the club.

Out-half Hook left Ospreys in 2011 to sign for French side Perpignan before moving onto the Premiership with Gloucester three years later.

But a return to Pro12 with Ospreys was always something he hoped would happen, so when the chance arose he had no hesitation in accepting their offer.

“I always planned, or hoped, that I’d come back but six years is a long time,” Hook told the Ospreys website. “A lot has changed in that time and anything could have happened.

“I’m grateful, and fortunate, that I’m getting this opportunity. I’m delighted to be going back home.

“It’s been fantastic to go away to new places, get some unbelievable experiences in England and France with two great clubs, but I’m coming home to a team that’s going places, with good coaches who I know well and a quality squad with some world class players and really exciting young talent.”

@Chris Finch: would you not want to get as much as you can in the same situation? He’s got all the leverage.

Alot of talk of rashford having a great season but I think he has 14 league goals so far, hardly earth shattering. He’s behind Toney who’s playing in an inferior team, behind Salah who has been average and playing in a very poor pool team. He still needs to do alot more before he can be considered top class (consistency and more goals for one), nevermind world class.

@Paul Mallon: I think its more akin to praise Drogba got, when we weren’t all dictated and obsessed by stats. Didier only scored more than 12 league goals twice in his whole Chelsea career. But its the weight and points value on the goals. The nuance of them as oppose to just looking at a stat. The winner in a 2-1 win weighs more than a hat trick in a 7-0 win. I also think its convenient to only count league goals in a season where Rashford’s team has won a cup, and is still in 2 others.

@Paul Mallon: compared to last season when people thought it would be best for him to leave for another club, he is having a good season. Where does it say he’s having the best season of all goalscorers in the league though? Who said that? It seems to be fabricated out of thin air for the sake of being negative.
