'I want it more than anything in the world': The team-talk that inspired Mount Leinster Rangers to victory

James Hickey rallied his team-mates before their All-Ireland semi-final win against Loughgiel Shamrocks.

TO DESCRIBE MOUNT Leinster Rangers’ season as a fairytale almost does it a disservice.

The Carlow champions have rewritten the history books time and again on their way to the AIB All-Ireland Club Senior Hurling final.

Even though they broke new ground as the first Carlow club to win the Leinster senior title, few gave them a chance of making it to Croke Park.

But they did, outplaying Loughgiel Shamrocks earlier this month to book their place in the St Patrick’s Day decider.

The cameras were inside the MLR dressing room before that semi-final and they caught this inspirational team-talk from James Hickey.

“If we genuinely, genuinely believe that we’re going to win today, we will win,” Hickey said as he rallied his team-mates.

“I am 100% convinced we will win. I am 100% convinced.

“Do not let yourselves down today, lads. I want to go to Croke Park on Paddy’s Day. I want it more than anything in the world.”
