Can an Allstar hurler be a good baseball player? Here's a first glimpse at Jackie Tyrrell's attempt

The one takeaway: baseball is probably tougher than it looks.

AFTER SEVEN ALL-Ireland championship wins and four Allstars, there isn’t a whole lot more Jackie Tyrrell can achieve in the game of hurling. Perhaps that is why the Kilkenny defender agreed to take part in the TV3 programme, The Toughest Trade.

Tyrrell went over to Florida to train with the Miami Marlins to see if he has the skills required to make it in baseball.

As you can see from this first clip, it isn’t a seamless transition from hurling to America’s pastime.

We’ve already heard about David Bentley’s prowess on the series, with the former Premier League footballer kicking three points on a wet and windy night in Crossmaglen.

So Tyrrell needs to hit at least a three-run homer, or three home runs, or get three RBIs to match Bentley (flexing my baseball muscle there).

Will the hand-eye coordination required for hurling eventually translate to baseball?
