One of Ireland's most promising players has made history in Holland

Jack Byrne has become Cambuur’s youngest ever goalscorer in the top tier of Dutch football.

IRELAND UNDER-21 INTERNATIONAL Jack Byrne has had a day to remember in Holland’s Eredivisie.

The Manchester City midfielder, who is on loan at Cambuur, became the youngest player to score for the club in the top tier of Dutch football in a 4-1 victory at Excelsior.

Byrne put in a man-of-match display in a 3-1 win against NEC last week and the 19-year-old excelled again today.

Last week Byrne thought he had opened his account for the club but his free-kick was eventually ruled as an own goal.

However, there were no doubts over his strike this week as he played a one-two in midfield before tucking it into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

The Dubliner was obviously delighted to make history for the Dutch club.

A quick look at his passing statistics also proves how effective he was throughout the contest.

Long may it continue.
