EAMONN MCENEANEY said he had given the Monaghan job his all before stepping down as the county’s senior football manager.
The Farney men were beaten 2-12 to 0-12 by Laois in the All-Ireland Round 2 qualifier in Portlaoise yesterday and McEneaney, who took over in October, 2010 believes the time is right for his departure.
“The future for Monaghan football will be as it always was,” he told BBC Sport. “We’ll dust ourselves down, come back and fight again. The future for Eamonn McEneaney will be doing something else because I’ve given it all I can.
“The job for somebody else is going to take three or four years to do and I think it’s time for somebody to do that.
I’ve given Monaghan 20 years as a player and as a manager. I’ve given it my level best in the last few years. I’m not used to defeats and never have been.
