It's the 150th Louth derby tonight, so here are 5 memorable past meetings

Dundalk host Drogheda United for a historic game at Oriel Park this evening.

THIS EVENING, DROGHEDA United make the short trip to Oriel Park to take on rivals Dundalk (7.45pm) in the 150th Louth derby.

The pair first met back in August 18, 1963, when 5,000 turned up as the Lilywhites recorded a 4-3 win over their neighbours.

Under new manager Stephen Kenny, Dundalk have started the new season brightly – earning seven points from a possible 12 to sit third in the Premier Division table.

“Drogheda are a good side,” Kenny told the club’s website. “They have good players and have done very well. I am pleased with our preparation though.

Our focus has been very, very good and we’re ready for it. These derbies always have an edge but we can’t get caught up on that. We have to concentrate on the football and go out there to win.”

Mick Cooke’s side, meanwhile, are two points further back after recording one win, two draws and a defeat so far. Whatever the recent form of the two sides, it is sure to be a cracking contest.

As it stands, the record looks like this:

  • Dundalk: 78
  • Drogheda: 34
  • Drawn: 37
