GARY SHANAHAN SCORED in both halves as Dundalk came from behind to take their place in the EA Sports Cup quarter final last night with a 2-1 win over Longford Town.
The Lilywhites found themselves a goal down after just three minutes when Sean Skelly fired into past Ger Hanly to give Longford a surprise lead.
However, it didn’t take long for a much changed Dundalk team – manager Sean McCaffrey made five changes to the side that drew with Shelbourne four days earlier – to find their feet and they were level mid way through the half when Shanahan scored from close range for his first competitive goal for the club.

The former Newcastle West player doubled his tally on 53 minutes, latching onto a neat pass from Stephen McDonnell before slotting home past the helpless Paul Hunt in the Longford goal.
Despite some late pressure, Dundalk saw out the rest of the game – including six minutes of injury-time – relatively easily to secure their place in the last eight.
