'It's a new beginning' - Andy Lee reinvirogated ahead of comeback fight in Belfast

The Irish middleweight contender steps back into the ring to take on Anthony Fitzgerald this Saturday night.

ANDY LEE SAYS Saturday’s fight with Anthony Fitzgerald in Belfast’s Odyssey Arena is the start of a new chapter in his life.

The Limerick middle-weight makes his comeback to the ring having been away since losing out to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last June. Lee had been leading on all three judges’ scoreboards but went down to a seventh-round stoppage in El Paso, Texas.

Six months ago, the 28-year-old decided to leave Detroit and relocate to London, where he has joined forces with trainer Andy Booth in a bid to kick-start his career. Now he faces Dubliner Fitzgerald (13W-3L, 1 KO) in a fight which will be shown live on Sky Sports and says he is focused on returning to winning ways.

“I’m training now with Adam Booth, he’s an excellent world class trainer,” Lee said. “We have worked hard together over the last five months in the gym reappraising my boxing style and making adjustments to my game.

“He’s a very smart and strategic trainer and he has taught me a lot of new things in a short period of time.”

A new location and trainer has reinvigorated me, it is a new beginning and chapter in my life. I can’t wait to step into the ring and get back to winning ways. Anthony Fitzgerald is a game and gutsy fighter and he is looking for an upset.

“However, I’m totally focused on the job at hand, I will be in Belfast to take care of business and leave nothing to chance. I intend to put in a quality performance and showcase my skills with an impressive win come Saturday night.”

Tickets for the fight are available from www.odysseyarena.com
