Italy star Masi joins Wasps

The 31-year-old, a free agent following the collapse of Italian side Aironi due to financial problems, has been capped 69 times for Italy.

ITALY CENTRE Andrea Masi completed his move to English Premiership club Wasps today.

Masi’s capture was a significant boost for Wasps after Dominic Waldouck’s departure to Northampton last week.

The 31-year-old, a free agent following the collapse of Italian side Aironi due to financial problems, has been capped 69 times for Italy and represented his country in three World Cups.

He was the first Italian to be named Six Nations Player of the Championship after scoring a try in a shock win over France in 2011. Prior to joining Aironi, Masi also had spells at Viadana, Biarritz and Racing Metro, and Wasps director of rugby Dai Young is delighted to have added the star to his squad.

“Andrea is a versatile player with proven quality and he will be bringing with him some vital experience from the highest level of the game,” Young said. ”We are always looking to add real international quality to our squad and I see him as giving us great depth in our back-line.”

Masi added: “I am really excited and honoured to be joining such a great European club and I am hoping that I can add something to the club both on and off the field.”
