It takes two to tango as Henson in talks with Saracens

More used to the Rumba than rugby these days, Gavin Henson could be in line for a double-time move to the Premiership.

GUINNESS PREMIERSHIP SIDE Saracens will decide in the next 24 hours or so whether to offer Gavin Henson the opportunity to resurrect his stalled career.

The Wales centre is currently competing in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing programme and has been out of preofessional rugby since March last year. He is, however, still contracted to Welsh side Ospreys, from whom he is on unpaid leave.

The issue of compensation to Ospreys could become a stumbling block to any potential move, which was reported by PA earlier.

However Saracens confirmed there has been “some contact” with the player’s representatives.  Said Ed Griffiths, the club’s chief executive:

His name has been mentioned but so have a lot of others. We need a fish and you sweep your big net through the ocean. Then you lift it up and see what’s inside.

It would be wrong to provide a commentary or update on negotiations with any one individual but I can confirm there has been contact between us and Gavin,

But we have also been speaking to three or four other players. At this stage of the season a lot of contracts are set in stone and you have to spend time talking to people and finding out who is potentially available.

A spell in Watford may help the 28-year-old Henson to resurrect his international career before next year’s World Cup.

Sarries, though, would have to wait until his Strictly commitments are over and will need to allow Henson some time to build match fitness.
