IT Sligo 1-9
Queen’s University 0-8

IT SLIGO PROGRESSED through to the quarter-final of the Sigerson Cup last night but only after the teams were forced to play extra-time in sub-zero temperatures in Belfast.

Groundsmen at the Dub were busy marking the snow-covered pitch with shovels minutes before throw-in, and the visitors started strongly with an early goal from Evan Regan before taking a 1-2 to 0-4 lead into the half-time break.

Queen’s dragged themselves back into the tie in the second half and the teams were level 0-7 to 1-4  heading into extra-time. Ryan Murray then missed penalty for the home side and Sligo sealed a four-point victory. They face UCC at the quarter-final stage.
