Is Jamie Roberts joining the Manic Street Preachers?

There we were thinking he was off to Racing Metro.

AS IF THIS year’s Lions tour down under wasn’t bloody Welsh enough. The Manic Street Preachers have lined up tour dates of their own to coincide with the second and third Tests in Sydney and Melbourne.

And from the healthy Welsh contingent in Warren Gatland’s squad, they’ve extended an invitation towards Jamie Roberts to join them on stage on both nights. Hate that guy.

Not only has he got a big handsome Desperate Dan head on him, but also a pocket full of international medals and a medical degree… now he’s ready to join a post-punk 90′s band too?

Here’s how the Manics might look if they were a quartet again. Empics Entertainment/ Press Association Images

“I have had a chat with James Dean Bradfield about that and he suggested I get up on stage to play a bit of rhythm guitar,” the centre told the Press Association.

“He would have to let me know which song so I can get a bit of practice in! That would be pretty cool.”

He added: “James is a wonderful bloke, a true Welshman, a big Cardiff Blues fan and it is great to see them playing gigs in Australia alongside the Lions.”

…Probably not

‘Alongside’ is the key word here though as, barring a suspicious injury or a loss of form, the good doctor JR will hardly be outside the team hotel on the night before a game.

So, you’re going to Australia, they’re going to Australia. Tell us, Jamie. What Manics song do you like?

“Their song ‘Australia’ sticks in the memory for me. It is a wonderful song and I am sure they will finish the gigs with it!”

Frankly, we were as stumped as poor Jamie. Tip of the hat to the Telegraph on this one. Can you do better?
