Is 5 May, 2012 the day that saves boxing?

The Fight of the Century might just be back on the cards. Maybe.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR plans fight in the “biggest fight possible” on 5 May, 2012.

His opponent has yet to be determined, but to be the “biggest fight,” Floyd needs to fight Manny Pacquiao.

“We’re looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella,” Mayweather’s manager told ESPN.

Pacquiao will fight Juan Manuel Marquez on Saturday week, so he would theoretically be able to get back into the ring again in May.

The two fighters have entered into discussions multiple times over the last two years, but have yet to agree to the terms of a Super Fight.

The last time negotiations broke down, it was over Pacquiao’s refusal to undergo Olympic-style drug testing in the weeks and days before the fight.

So will the Fight of the Century actually happen on May 5? We’re pessimistic.

For this fight to go down, the two camps will have to compromise on drug testing and other issues. And so far, they’ve shown no indication that they’re willing to do so.
