THE IRISH UNDER-17 GIRLS team won their penultimate group stage match against Canada at the World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago overnight, leaving them just one match away from a spot in the quarter-final.
Noel King’s side lost their first match 2-1 against Brazil, and now need to win their final match against Ghana to progress from the group stage.
Irish manager Noel King was sent to the stands by the referee, but ‘keeper Grace Maloney ensured an Irish win with a fine save late on from Canadian forward Alexandra Courtnall.

THE IRISH UNDER-17 GIRLS team won their penultimate group stage match against Canada at the World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago overnight, leaving them just one match away from a spot in the quarter-final.

Siobhán Killeen scored the winner against Canada- a fabulous goal on the edge of the penalty area- which was the only goal of the game (see highlights here).
