The Morning Score: Wednesday

Donegal and Mayo set to duke it out again in the All-Stars, crucial away wins in the Champions League and Lotto fever in Connacht.

Every morning TheScore.ie brings you the stories you need to know before that first cup of coffee.

#WISHFUL THINKING Connacht coach Eric Elwood, who looks likely to step down from his role at the end of the year, told us that he would love to sign All Black captain Richie McCaw but he might need to find a blank cheque or win Euromillions first.

#ALL-STARS 12 players from All-Ireland Football champions Donegal have been rewarded for their efforts with nominations for the All-Star awards. Mayo have got 10 while Cork and Dublin have seven and six, respectively.

#CHAMPIONS LEAGUE While Chelsea could have won 12-0 in Denmark, Manchester United and Glasgow Celtic were recording important away victories. Robin van Persie scored a double for Fergie’s men and Georgios Samaras glanced in the winner for the Scottish champions. It didn’t all go smoothly for some of Europe’s other elite sides, however.

#GAA The Meath County board executive will propose Mick O’Dowd as the candidate to be ratified as the county’s new senior football manager at a board meeting next Monday night. With Cork offering Con Counihan a two-year extension and Kildare’s Kieran McGeeney looking set for ratification for another campaign, the preparations for a tilt at Sam in 2013 are well underway.

#SET-PIECE If your pub, club or prison team are caught out by this amazing corner-kick routine at the weekend, don’t say we didn’t warn you. I would like to see that tried on a Subbuteo pitch.
