IRISH OLYMPIC HERO Michael Conlan secured his place in next week’s Elite National Championship finals with a semi-final win at the National Stadium last night.
The flyweight fighter, who claimed a bronze medal at the London Games last summer, saw off the threat of fellow Belfast native Ruairi Dalton with a 30-14 win.

Conlan will now face either Hugh Joyce or Chris Phelan, who meet later this evening.
I was happy with that win because we’re old rivals,” Conlan told IABA.ie. ”I’ll probably have a tougher fight in the final, Chris Phelan or Hughie Joyce. I can’t see Chris losing, he’s a really good boxer.”
Elsewhere, in the welterweight category, Adam Nolan defeated Brian Brosnan to book his place in the final while there were wins for Sean McComb, Ray Moylette, Jason Quigley and Hannah Carthy.
