EVERY MONDAY, WE scan the passports, check the family trees and cross-reference with the “granny rule” to keep you informed about the ups and downs of all the Irish (and Irish-eligible) footballers in England, Scotland and further afield.
Think of us as the Tardelli to your Trap, if you will…
Premier League
Wes Hoolahan(Norwich 1-0 Arsenal) In front of Giovanni Trapattoni, the ex-Shelbourne star ran the show for Chris Hughton’s side as the Canaries recorded their first league win of the season. Always eager to get on the ball and create, the 30-year-old deserves a call-up for next month’s friendly against Greece. Anthony Pilkington, who also started for Norwich, had a solid game.
Shane Long (West Brom 1-2 Manchester City) A return to club football meant a return to the starting line-up for Long and he justified his place ahead of Romelu Lukaku with a smart finish past Joe Hart in the second half for his fifth goal of the season.

John O’Shea (Sunderland 1-1 Newcastle) It was the Black Cats skipper’s header which was diverted into the net by Demba Ba for Sunderland’s equalising goal in the Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday. James McClean, declared injured for Ireland’s two World Cup qualifiers last week, played 90 minutes for Martin O’Neill’s side too.
James McCarthy (Swansea 2-1 Wigan) Created an assist for Emmerson Boyce’s spectacular goal but couldn’t prevent the Latics from losing at the Liberty Stadium.
Npower Championship
Andy Reid (Nottingham Forest 3-1 Cardiff City) Midfielder Andy Reid earned a free-kick on the edge of the Cardiff box on 25 minutes before exquisitely curling it around the wall and into the back of the net for his third goal this term. Simon Cox was substituted at half-time for Forest while Joe Mason came off the bench for the Bluebirds.
Damien Delaney (Crystal Palace 2-2 Millwall) The five-times-capped Ireland international glanced Owen Garvan‘s free-kick past David Forde to double Palace’s lead during their 2-2 derby draw at home to Millwall.
League One
Jonathan Douglas(Doncaster 2-1 Brentford) Monaghan native Douglas scored the opening goal for Brentford on 45 minutes – chipping the ball over the head of Gary Woods.
Major League Soccer
Robbie Keane(San Jose Earthquakes 2-2LA Galaxy) Goal number 16 of the campaign for Ireland’s captain, who converted Edson Buddle’s cross in their 2-2 draw with the Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium.
