EVERY MONDAY, WE scan the passports, check the family trees and cross-reference with the “granny rule” to keep you informed about the ups and downs of all the Irish (and Irish-eligible) footballers in England, Scotland and further afield.
Think of us as the Tardelli to your Trap, if you will…
Premier League
Enda Stevens (Aston Villa 2-3 Manchester United)
A big day for former Shamrock Rovers defender Enda Stevens, who made his full Aston Villa debut in their 3-2 defeat to Alex Ferguson’s men at Villa Park. Stevens kept Antonio Valencia relatively quiet, and was not at fault for any of Javier Hernandez’ three goals.
Reluctant as we are to mention it, but Stephen Ireland also had a fine game.

Seamus Coleman (Everton 2-1 Sunderland)
A full 90 minutes from Coleman, who seems to have returned to the form of two years ago.
Jon Walters and Glenn Whelan (Stoke City 1-0 QPR)
Walters and Whelan both played full parts in this deathly dull encounter before joining up with the Irish squad and, in Walters’ case, later pulling out.
James McCarthy (Wigan 1-2 West Brom)
Not a great day for McCarthy, who was on the losing side and also booked at the DW Stadium against West Brom.
Championship
Daryl Murphy (Ipswich 2-1 Burnley)
Murphy scored a controversial opener for the Trotters, with new Burnley manager Sean Dyche irate that the goal stood after a challenge by the Waterford man on goalkeeper Lee Grant. Green shoots for Ipswich under Mick McCarthy, that’s two wins from the last three games.
Mark Yeates (Leeds United 1-6 Watford)
The Londoners enjoyed something of a rout at Elland Road on Saturday, and in among all those goalscorers was Dubliner Yeates, who bagged the Hornets’ fourth out of six.
Simon Cox (Leicester City 2-2 Nottingham Forest)
Another goal for Cox, who tucked away a 67th minute penalty for the Reds at the Walkers Stadium.
Andy Keogh (Millwall 2-1 Derby County)
Keogh preceded his call-up to the Irish squad with the winner against Nigel Clough’s men, curling home his effort when Derby failed to clear a Millwall corner.
League One
Jon Douglas (Brentford 2-1 Carlisle United)
Monaghan veteran Douglas opened the scoring for the London side, hammering home a far post volley from Harry Forrester’s deep corner.
League Two
John O’Flynn (Exeter City 2-2 Fleetwood Town)
Former Cork City striker O’Flynn’s penalty in the 57th minute saved a point for the Grecians.

Absence will be ‘weeks rather than months’ for injured John Terry >
