Ireland's Paddy Holohan suffers surprise loss at UFC fight night

The Irish fighter had previously been unbeaten in 11 fights before his defeat in Nova Scotia.

IRELAND’S PADDY HOLOHAN suffered a surprise loss at Saturday’s UFC fight night at the Metro Centre in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Previously unbeaten, Holohan came unstuck against Canada’s Chris Kelades, losing the fight by a unanimous decision.

All three judges awarded the contest 29-28 in favour of Kelades to the delight of the home crowd.

“The third round was all the crowd,” Kelades told reporters. “Five days’ notice. A week ago, I was watching the UFC at TJ [Grant’s] house eating a chicken schwarma. But it was gut check time. The extra weight [cut] played an effect, so definitely when you see me again, it’s going to be a few speeds above that.”

There was joy elsewhere from an Irish perspective however, as Cathal Pendred triumphed following a split decision.
