THE SETTING WAS the Irish team hotel in Christchurch as coach Declan Kidney and captain Brian OโDriscoll fielded questions after the team for the second Test against New Zealand was announced.
OโDriscoll took questions about the 2005 Lions tour โ he injured his shoulder in Christchurch โ and Irelandโs losing run against the All Blacks in the best humour possible.
โTime heals all wounds,โ he remarked, โeven shoulder wounds.โ
Amidst the talk of returns for Andrew Trimble and Gordon DโArcy, and the debate over scrum-half, we put the questions of TheScore.ie and our readers to the two main men.
****
Declan Kidney:
We took a heavy hit on Saturday night but we are long enough in it to know that if we get our parts right then the (gap) closes up quite considerably. It is all about us getting things right and that is what we are focusing on.โ
****
Declan Kidney:
We would never really think of it like (provinces). We wouldnโt care where they were from.In reference to Leinster, Eoin is training well. Weโve talked to him and he is unlucky not to start this weekend.โ
****
Brian OโDriscoll:
I donโt think so. Every time you pull on a Test jersey, irrespective of what country you play for, you do so with a lot of pride. We are not playing for second best this weekend. We are playing to win.โ
Kevin McLaughlin:
The Super 15 is a lot different to the RaboDirect โ it is a lot faster. The Kiwis just ran from everywhere, especially when we kicked loose a few times. We just need to be a lot tighter in our defence this time.โ
****
Declan Kidney:
For a long time, New Zealand has had a very strong domestic competition. With the Super Rugby now, you have five quality teams and five players to choose from in each position. That level of competition is only add to the melting pot when it comes to selection and players for the Test team.โ
****
Declan Kidney:
I think there is even more to come from Conor (Murray) so, for that reason, Iโm giving him the nod again to show what he can do.I think I remember one loose (kick) but he wasnโt the only one to kick the ball, once, loose. I think a try came from it. It wasnโt altogether his fault and there is the collective to consider too.โ

Best of luck to Cathal. He comes across as very smart and mature, and more importantly, decent person.
Itโs a shame he didnโt make it further on ufc due to the above. He would of been a great spokesman for the sport and for his voluntary work with mental health.
link to voluntary work with mental health?
Getting battered around the head, couldnโt be good for ones mental health, could it?
The ufc in this case can be a step in some for something even bigger, who knows!
One thing he doesnโt lack is heart. Best of luck in your new venture Cathal.
Seems like a great guy and a gent. I still have nightmares about the rude and ill informed interview Ray Darcy did with him on his radio show where he kept referring to him as โConorโ.
Couple of qโsโฆ When is the restaurant opening and where is it? Thanks for the memories Cathal
โAll I had was hard work ethic, and a never say die attitudeโ certainly enough to succeed in the UFCโฆ but a recipe for success outside of it. Best of luck Pendred.
Well spoken and really understands this own decisions and thereโs parts were heโs inspirational too,
sad to see him go.
some people suit the sport.
