THE IRELAND U19 women’s team made history yesterday by booking their place in the semi-finals of the European Championships in Norway.
Appearing at the competition for the first time, Dave Connell’s team took maximum points from three games by following up victories over Spain and England with a 2-1 win over Sweden.
They fell behind to Stina Blackstenius’ opener but McCarthy equalised with a looping header on 21 minutes before Connolly’s brilliant free-kick went in off the crossbar ten minutes from time.
