PIC: Ireland Women's team moments after stunning 25-0 win over England

Alison Miller was among the try-scorers on an afternoon to remember in County Meath.

IRELAND WOMEN’S TEAM recorded one of their finest ever results this afternoon as they socked reigning Six Nations champions England 25-0.

Alison Miller scored a hat-trick of tries for the Irish on a fantastic afternoon of attacking rugby at Ashbourne RFC.

A fourth try came courtesy of fullback Niamh Briggs, who also added five points from the boot.

The triumph is all the more remarkable considering the stark training and preparation differences between semi-pro England and the dedicated amateurs of Ireland.

Speaking to TheScore.ie during the week, Irish captain Fiona Coghlan said, “We’ll meet up on Thursday night and  get about 40 minutes to put things right.”

‘Couldn’t deal with it’

Speaking after the match, England coach Gary Street conceded, “We’re obviously massively disappointed with the result, but Ireland were excellent today – they dominated us.

“They upped their game from last week and we just couldn’t deal with it.”

Ireland have now won their opening two matches after an away victory over Wales last week.
