ATHLETICS IRELAND TODAY named an 11-person team for the first major international meet of the season, the European Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Olympians Derval O’Rourke, Ciarán O’Lionaird, Fionnuala Britton and Tori Pena will be joined by Brian Gregan, the fastest man in Europe over 400m so far this year, when action gets underway in Gothenburg, Sweden on Friday morning.
David McCarthy and Mark English both met the qualification standard but have withdrawn due to illness in McCarthy’s case and in order to focus on the European U23 Championships in English’s case.
