David Forde 6 –Did his job when called into action and will be confident of holding onto the number one jersey despite conceding twice.
Seamus Coleman 6 – Caused damage when he got forward and solid early on but arguably at fault for both goals.
Marc Wilson6 — We know he’s versatile but still unsure of which is his strongest position.
Richard Keogh 6 — Did okay filling in for regular centre-back John O’Shea.
Stephen Ward6 — Lucky not to be punished when over-casual in the first half but can’t have many complaints.

Aiden McGeady6 – Relatively quiet from the Everton winger in the first half but came inside to get involved before being taken off.
James McCarthy 7 – His general industrious self and Ireland lost their shape in the middle when he was taken off.
Glenn Whelan 6 – Captain for the night started really well but was bossed out of it in the midfield by Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Co after the break.
James McClean 7 — Started brilliantly on the left and was just as dangerous when he and McGeady switched flanks in the first half.
Wes Hoolahan 8 – Ireland’s most creative player unlocked the Serbian defence on a number of occasions with a series of beautiful passes.
Shane Long 7 – Worked tirelessly up front and got his reward with a well-taken goal to open the scoring. Guilty of wasting two gilt-edged chances to double his, and Ireland’s, tally when twice put clean through by Hoolahan though.
Subs:
David Meyler 6 – Did his best to put himself about when he came on.
Anthony Pilkington 5 — Had a decent shot on goal.
Ciaran Clark 5 – Slotted in at full-back but wasn’t involved.
Daryl Murphy5 — Good to see him back in a green shirt after six years.
