Ireland secure two more bronze medals in cycling

James Brown and Damien Shaw finished third behind only Spain and Italy, while Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan secured their second medals of the Games.

IRELAND SECURED TWO more bronze medals in the Paralympic Games in London on Wednesday afternoon.

James Brown and Damien Shaw took third place in the Men’s Individual Time Trial B at Brands Hatch, finishing behind only Spain and Italy in the gold and silver positions respectively.

The Irish men clocked 31:13.00 to secure the medal.

The bronze medal comes after both Brown and Shaw were disappointed to miss out on a podium place in the paracycling Individual Pursuit B competition at the Velodrome last Thursday.

“We are riding a new bike, we opted for power rather than aerodynamics, and it really seems to have paid off,” Brown said afterwards.

There was also joy also for Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan in the women’s event, after the duo secured their second medal of the Games in a time of 35:29.56.

They finished behind the Netherlands’ Kathrin Goeken and Kim van Dijk – who took gold – while New Zealand’s Philippa Gray and Laura Thompson secured silver.

Irish duo Katie Dunleavy and Sandra Fitzgerald placed fifth with a time of 35:48.06

Walsh and Meehan, Ireland’s most successful Tandem pairing, had taken silver in the para-cycling individual B pursuit on Sunday.

After the race, Meehan commented: “We have a really strong team, and I think that’s what has moved us on, we support each other, share our advice, and it means we all improve.”

Had to lol at Sky referring to Andy Murray as a Brit when he won the set. He’ll be back to being the Scot if federer wins.

If Andy Murray wins, his mother Judy will swoop down onto court and regurgitate a dead mouse for him.

One set all, i can see Federer wearing Murray down, has that extra bit of class but Murray has a lot of heart.
