WATERFORD’S ALLSTAR NOMINEE Maurice Shanahan has been included in the Ireland squad for the first Hurling/Shinty test against Scotland at Bught Park, Inverness, on Saturday, 24 October (2pm).
Shane Moloney, who scored the winning point for Galway against Tipperary in this year’s All-Ireland semi-final, is also part of the squad managed by Galway’s All-Ireland minor winning boss Jeffrey Lynskey and Antrim’s Gregory O’Kane.
David McInerney, All-Ireland senior hurling medallist with Clare in 2013, is also making the trip to Scotland.
The Hurling/Shinty senior series is played on a home and away basis, with the return game pencilled in for Croke Park on 21 November, before the Eirgid International Rules game between Ireland and Australia.
The U21 Hurling/Shinty clash between Ireland and Scotland will serve as the curtain raiser before the senior game at Bught Park (11.30am).
Waterford’s Austin Gleeson and Wexford hitman Conor McDonald are included in the U21 squad.
