IRELAND COACH JOE SCHMIDT has revealed Jonny Sexton will fly back to France for club duty with Racing Metro this evening.
It is not yet clear whether the out-half will feature for Racing Metro this weekend and Schmidt conceded the situation was ‘not ideal’. “Hopefully he’ll get the weekend off, be it in Ireland or France,” said Schmidt.
Racing will make a call on the former Leinster out-half’s playing contribution tomorrow but Schmidt believes his absence will be well covered by Paddy Jackson or Ian Madigan.
“He just was pretty tired at the start of the week. He was a little flat. I know Jonny pretty well and he’s a pretty buoyant character, a bossy character in a really good sense.

“He was definitely a bit flat, he’s bouncing back now, but he’s also taking a flight to Paris.
“If he is run down next week or if he does play against Biarritz then it’s a great opportunity for Paddy or Ian to step up and make a mark.”
No decision will be made on the Ireland captaincy for the November Tests until next Tuesday at the earliest. It is more likely, however, that the call will not be made until the team announcement next Thursday.
