Ireland to play Oman in London friendly, FAI confirm

Ireland open their World Cup 2014 qualification campaign four days before the Craven Cottage fixture with an away game in Kazakhstan.

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI’S IRELAND will play Oman in an senior international friendly at Fulham’s Craven Cottage next month.

The game against Paul le Guen’s side is scheduled for 11 September (kick-off 7.30pm).

“I am looking forward to returning to Craven Cottage for this match which will be a useful opportunity to prepare further for our World Cup qualification campaign,” the Italian said this morning.

Ireland open their World Cup 2014 qualification campaign four days earlier with an away game in Kazakhstan and then take on Germany in October at home, of course.

“Everyone knows the Republic has the best supporters in the world, so we are expecting there to be a great atmosphere and are looking forward to welcoming Oman and their fans to Fulham’s home ground” said Cottagers defender Stephen Kelly.

Trap will convene his squad for the first time since the disastrous Euro 2012 campaign ahead of a challenge game with Serbia on 15 August. Earlier, FIFA confirmed the Irish remain in 26th position in the world rankings.
