Ireland 7s a step closer to Rio after streamrolling their way through Division B

Malta, Slovenia and Serbia were all on the losing side against Anthony Eddy’s men today.

THE IRELAND MEN’S Sevens Rugby side brushed aside every opponent put in front of them to win Rugby Europe Division B without conceding a single point this evening.

Ireland had already made light work of Slovenia, Bulgaria and Austria to top Pool B and set up a quarter-final meeting with Malta today. That match ended in a 76-0 victory, before a semi-final match-up against Slovenia finished 59-0.

Serbia were their opponents for the final and Anthony Eddy’s side recorded yet another whitewash — claiming a 74-0 win in Zagreb. The result earns them a place in the Rugby Europe Olympic Repechage tournament in Lisbon next month.

Victory there would see them progress to the World Olympic Repechage, where a spot for the Rio Olympics is up for grabs.
