Ireland beaten by USA at World Handball Championships

Despite a valiant effort, the Irish ultimately lost 3-1 at the Citywest arena.

IRELAND LOST 3-1 against the USA in their opening match of the 2012 World Handball Championships in the Citywest arena last night.

In front of over 2,000 spectators, world champion Paul Brady inspired Ireland to an excellent start, with some impressive serving causing Dave Fink problems.

Ireland subsequently went 1-0 ahead, with Brady winning the tie 21-9.

The Irish team, however, proceeded to lose the following three games.

Robbie McCarthy and Brian Carroll were defeated by Luis Moreno and Andy Nett, with a final score of 21-18, to bring the two sides level at 1-1 overall.

Sean Lenning narrowly beat Michael Gregan 21-20 to give the US the lead, before Naty Alvarado and Luis Cordova sealed their victory, beating Ducksy Walsh and Tom Sheridan 21-18.
