Trap names Clark in starting XI, Hoolahan on the bench

The Aston Villa defender will earn his third senior cap tomorrow night.

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI HAS named Ciaran Clark in his starting XI for tomorrow’s meeting with Greece.

Lansdowne Road hosts the international friendly (kick-off 7.45pm) and the Italian has opted for 23-year-old Aston Villa defender Clark, who will earn his third cap, as a partner for John O’Shea in central defence.

Glenn Whelan and James McCarthy make up a two-man midfield with promising youngster Robbie Brady and James McClean on the wings. Up front, Simon Cox has been preferred to Wes Hoolahan alongside Shane Long, but the Norwich City attacker has been guaranteed 45 minutes so should be introduced at half-time.

The Ireland to play Greece is as follows: Westwood, Coleman, O’Shea, Clark, Ward, Brady, Whelan, McCarthy, McClean, Cox, Long.
