Injury update: McShane ruled out of Greek visit

The Hull City defender had been a doubt for tomorrow’s friendly and the FAI have now confirmed that he will return to his club.

PAUL MCSHANE WILL play no part in tomorrow night’s international friendly in Dublin, the FAI have confirmed this afternoon.

The Hull City defender, who was due to make his 27th appearance at senior level, had been viewed as a doubt along with Jon Walters after he picked up a calf strain on club duty last weekend.

And after yesterday’s news that Walters will be absent when Ireland take on Greece at Lansdowne Road, the association have revealed that 26-year-old McShane is also set to miss out.

A statement released in the last few minutes reads: “Paul McShane has withdrawn from the squad to face Greece in Aviva Stadium tomorrow night dues to a calf injury. He will return to his club later today for treatment. No replacement has been called up.”

Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni will announce his starting line-up at 2.30pm with Seamus Coleman, John O’Shea and Ciaran Clark all expected to be named in defence.
