Ireland friendly with Spain confirmed for New York this summer

Giovanni Trapattoni’s side will take on the world and European champions at Yankee Stadium.

IRELAND WILL PLAY Spain in an international friendly in New York on June 11, the FAI has confirmed today.

After the game was mooted last month, the Boys and Green have added a meeting with the world champions to a busy summer schedule.

Meetings with England (May 29), Georgia (June 2) and Wales (August 14) have already been pencilled in and there’s also a World Cup qualifier at home to the Faroes Islands on June 7.

The fixture, which is set to be held at Yankee Stadium, will see the sides face off for the first time since last year’s 4-0 drubbing by the eventual winners during the Euro 2012 group stages in Gdansk.
