Trap goes with Hoolahan for Faroes qualifier but Dunne misses out

The Norwich star gets the nod and will make his first competitive start in tomorrow’s game at the Aviva Stadium.

WES HOOLAHAN WILL make his first competitive start for Ireland in tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier with the Faroe Islands in Dublin.

Ireland take on Group C’s bottom team and Giovanni Trapattoni has opted for the Norwich man alongside Glenn Whelan in midfield after he impressed in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Georgia.

Despite saying Richard Dunne was “90% to start” during the week, the veteran defender has not made it with Sean St Ledger partnering John O’Shea at centre-back.

At his press conference in Malahide this afternoon, Trap said that while he believes Dunne isn’t ready to start a qualifier, he added that the he may come on in the second half.

Elsewhere, Robbie Keane will become Ireland’s most capped played when he leads the side out for his 126th senior cap and breaks Shay Given’s record.

James McCarthy and Shane Long are suspended for the game.
