HULL AND EVERTON are currently likely to be the main contenders for the average Irish football fan’s second favourite Premier League side.
Following confirmation of Shane Long’s move to the Tigers today, both clubs in question could conceivably now have as many as five Irish players each in their team.
Moreover, should Curtis Davies — the defender believed to be on Martin O’Neill’s wanted list — utilise his eligibility and declare for Ireland, there could be an even greater number of Irish internationals representing one of these two clubs next year.
That said, there are a few caveats — Shane Duffy is currently on loan at Yeovil, Darron Gibson is a long-term injury absentee and someone, possibly David Meyler, would have to drop into an unfamiliar left-back position, so it’s unlikely that Martin O’Neill will be tempted to pick such a team anytime soon.

Ireland can now fill an entire outfield team comprising solely of Everton and Hull players
