Ireland end 2010 with meek home defeat to Norway

THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND have ended 2010 with their third successive defeat, falling 2-1 at home to Norway in an international friendly at the Aviva Stadium. Giovanni Trapattoni’s side had gone 1-0 up inside five minutes, after Shane Long was felled in the box and converted the penalty himself, but a free kick from Morten Gamst Pedersen after 34 minutes and a late strike from Erik Huseklepp gave the visitors victory.
