The latest Fifa rankings are out - and Ireland are down again

The good news is, we’re better than Gabon.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS, FOOTBALL fans. Ireland have dropped three places to 64th in the latest Fifa world rankings.

Martin O’Neill’s side — who have been outside the world’s top 60 since November 2013 — now sit behind Togo and Burkina Faso and just ahead of Gabon, Bulgaria and Norway.

The top 20 remain unchanged with world champions Germany still leading the way from Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and the Netherlands.

There were mixed fortunes for Ireland’s Group D opponents with Scotland unchanged in 37th while Poland are down one place to 41st and Georgia are up one to 125th.

There’s no change for Roy Hodgson’s England or for Wales who remain 13th and 34th respectively while Northern Ireland have dropped one place to 48th.
