Joyce last played for England in April 2007 in an ODI against Sri Lanka. International rules state that the left-handed batsman must wait four years before switching national teams.
The rule would mean that Joyce cannot play for Ireland until 4 April 2011, but Cricket Ireland are hopeful that the former Middlesex player will be allowed play in the World Cup which begins in late February. The finals run until 2 April.
Joyce, now playing for Sussex, has stated his intention to return to the Ireland team and should feature in the Irish training camp in Poona next month if declared eligible.
