Ireland to take on Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in New Jersey this June

Martin O’Neill will lead his side out at the MetLife Stadium this summer, promoters say.

IRELAND WILL TAKE on Portugal in New Jersey this June.

Portugal, led by Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, will face Mexico and Martin O’Neill’s side in the US ahead of the World Cup, promoters said today.

The Portuguese will meet Mexico on 6 June at the home of the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and face the Irish on 10 June, a Portuguese holiday, at East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The MetLife Stadium hosted this month’s American football Super Bowl.

The matches will be the last for the Portugal team before they head to Brazil for the World Cup, where they will kick-off their campaign against Germany on  16 June.

The Portuguese will also face the United States and Ghana in Group G.

Ireland face Serbia next month in an international friendly in Dublin before facing Turkey and Italy in May. The FAI were not immediately available for comment.
