'I'm looking forward to a very bad hangover' - Clarke and McIlroy miss out in Bermuda

Northern Ireland’s Major winners failed to win the PGA Grand Slam of Golf but at least one Irishman seemed to get over it pretty quickly.

DARREN CLARKE AND Rory McIlroy missed out on winning the PGA Grand Slam of Golf yesterday.

American Keegan Bradley took the spoils at the 36-hole event between this season’s four major champions.

The Northern Irish pair filled the bottom two places.

Bradley beat South African Charl Schwartzel by a shot, with McIlroy four behind and Open winner Clarke a massive 13 strokes further back.

But after the Irishmen picked up £158,000 and £125,000 in prize money respectively, Clarke revealed he fancied staying put.

“I was scheduled to play at Valderrama next week, but because I’ve decided that Bermuda is such a beautiful place I’m going to stay on,” he said.

“My fiancee and my family is here, so I’m going to have a have a vacation instead of going back home.

“[It's] a shame I played so poorly this week, but I’m here for a good reason and I’m looking forward to a very bad hangover in the morning.”

McIlroy led by three after six holes of the second round, but then bogeyed the next three and added a 75 to his opening 67.

“I didn’t quite have control of the golf ball like I did yesterday. The wind was tough, I just didn’t do enough when I needed to,” he told reporters.
