ROG and Páidí Ó Sé documentaries to battle it out for Irish sports film prize

Also shortlisted for this year’s IFTAs are films about the story of Irish cricket and basketball in the 1980s.

THE SHORTLISTS FOR the 11th annual Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTA) have been announced this morning with four documentaries nominated for Sports Film of the Year.

Among the quartet is the Ronan O’Gara Documentary ‘ROG: The Ronan O’Gara Story’, which was hugely popular when it aired on RTE in January, and TG4′s film about the life of late Kerry legend Páidí Ó Sé, entitled ‘Páidí Ó Sé: Rí an Pharóiste’.

Also nominated is ‘Batmen’ which tells the story of Irish cricket from its birth up to 2012, and ‘We Got Game’ — a look back at American basketball players who played in Ireland during the 1980s.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Dublin on 5 April.
