Pep Guardiola gives Irish goalkeeper a chance to impress on Man City's pre-season tour

Ian Lawlor will be hoping to be in Guardiola’s first-team plans for the coming season.

NEW MANCHESTER CITY manager Pep Guardiola has named Ireland U21 goalkeeper Ian Lawlor in his squad for their pre-season tour.

With first-choice goalkeeper Joe Hart given an extended break due to his involvement with England at Euro 2016, and third-choice Richard Wright released at the end of the season, Guardiola has opted to name three inexperienced goalkeepers, including Lawlor, to join Willy Caballero on their tour.

The 21-year-old has never played a senior game for City, and spent time on loan at Barnet and Bury in the Football League last season, in order to gain more first-team experience.

England U21 goalkeeper Angus Gunn as well as his Welsh counterpart, Billy O’Brien, will also join Lawlor and Caballero on the tour.

City take on Guardiola’s former club Bayern Munich in a friendly in Germany on Wednesday night, before heading to China for the International Champions Cup, where the Citizens take on cross-city rivals Manchester United, before facing Borussia Dortmund.
