HUNTER MAHAN SAYS he “just can’t deal” with golf after missing out on a spot in America’s Ryder Cup team.
After an impressive start to the 2012 season, Mahan dropped down the US Ryder Cup points list as he failed to finish inside the top 10 for six consecutive tournaments, eventually missing out on automatic selection.
The 30-year-old also missed out on a wildcard selection and has conceded he lacks motivation to play golf.
”It was hard, harder than I thought,” Mahan said.
“Golf is hard right now.

“I just can’t deal with it all.
“It doesn’t have much appeal.
“It feels empty.”
US captain Davis Love III used his wildcard selections to pick Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker.
In his first tournament after missing out on the Ryder Cup, Mahan finished last at the BMW Championship.
Despite having won both the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and Houston Open earlier this year, Mahan has admitted he is not up to standard at the moment.
“I tried to patch things together, change putters, a quick fix, but at the end of the day, I’m out of will,” Mahan said
“You need to be mentally and emotionally invested in each round and, if you’re not, then it’s hard to compete out here.
“I’m not even technically good right now.”
The Californian-born golfer does not plan to watch the Ryder Cup because he believes it will hurt too much.
“Being there, having gone through it … it’s tough to say that, too,” Mahan said.
“You have so many friends on the team and you want them to do well.
“I don’t feel good saying that, but I think it would be hard to sit and watch it.”
