House arrest: Overweight Adriano ordered to stay in team hotel and diet

The troubled Brazilian star has been told that his condition won’t improve until he puts a stop to the excessive eating habits.

CORINTHIANS HAVE TAKEN a number of drastic measures in a bid to deal with Adriano’s ballooning weight.

The Brazilian striker, whose career has gone off the rails in recent years, has struggled to keep the pounds off and the problem has become so serious that his club have decided to put him under house arrest in the hope of getting him back in shape.

As well as being ordered to remain inside the team hotel during weekends, the 29-year-old has been given a separate diet to adhere to doctors and is on triple training sessions.

“We locked him here because this way we can have more control of what he eats, of how he rests,” Corinthians trainer Mahseredjian said on ESPN. “You can only lose weight if you stop eating.”

We are doing everything we can to give him a chance to get better,” club coach Tite added. “We want what is best for him and what is best for us.”

Adriano spent seven years in European football at Internazionale and Parma before returning to his homeland with Flamengo in 2009. A brief stint with Roma the following year ended after seven months and he moved to his current club.

His troubles with his weight, alcohol and depression have been well-documented and, although he scored the league-winning goal last season, has yet to play this year due to a knee injury.
