HOLLAND WERE WORLD CUP semi-finalists just over a year ago, but it’s looking increasingly possible that they won’t qualify for Euro 2016.
On Thursday night, they lost 1-0 at home to group leaders Iceland. They now find themselves in third, with a one point lead over today’s opponents Turkey and six points behind second place.

Things have gotten even worse for Danny Blind’s side as they were beaten 3-0 by Turkey today. Turkey took the lead in the eighth minute, Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan splitting the Dutch defence with a pin point pass for Oguzhan Ozyakup.
Ozyakup produced an exquisite dink finish to beat Cillessen in the goal and score his first international goal.

Fourteen minutes later they added a second from Arda Turan. Neither Blind or De Vrij covered themselves in glory with their defending, but the Cillessen will be disappointed that he was beaten at his near post.

Holland dominated the bulk of the second half as they tried to engineer a way back into the game but it was Burak Yilmaz that notched a third late on for the home side.
Today’s result means Turkey leapfrog Holland into the third place playoff position. The Dutch are left fighting for their lives in Group A, two points behind Turkey with only two games remaining.
