THE LOS ANGELES KINGS are just a win away from their first Stanley Cup title after thrashing the New Jersey Devils 4-0 on Monday.

Goaltender Jonathan Quick made 22 saves to post his third shutout of the post-season as the Kings took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Finals series with the win at the Staples Center.

If the Kings win Game 4 on Wednesday, they will become the first team to sweep a Stanley Cup Finals series since the Detroit Red Wings achieved the feat in 1998.

After a goalless opening period, Alec Martinez and Anze Kopitar found the net in the second to give the Kings a 2-0 lead.

The sealing goals came in the third period, with Jeff Carter netting his sixth of the post-season.

Justin Williams struck the fourth when he drove the puck past Devils goalie Martin Brodeur (17 saves).

The Kings have a 15-2 win-loss record in what has been a superb post-season.

Only one team – the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs – has ever rallied from a 3-0 series deficit to win the Stanley Cup.
