JAVIER HERNANDEZ WAS left red-faced last night after this awful, awful miss nearly cost Mexico their World Cup play-off place.

The Manchester United striker fluffed his lines in front of an open goal and although his miskick trickled over the line, it was ruled out for offside as Oribe Peralta chased it into the empty net.

It looked as though Chicharito’s blunder would be a costly one as Costa Rica went on to win 2-1.

With Panama leading the USA deep into stoppage time, Mexico were set to miss out on the play-offs.

But Graham Zuzi and Aron Johannsson scored twice in the final moments to give the USA a 3-2 win, break Panamanian hearts, and leave the Mexican papers to proclaim: “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
