HENRY SHEFFLIN IS set to commit his future to Galway for the next few seasons as he bids to lead the Tribesmen to silverware in his first stint as an inter-county manager.
Shefflin has confirmed he will manage Galway for a third season in 2024 and has indicated to the county’s hierarchy that he is willing to extend his term beyond that.

Shefflin came on board for a three-year term for the start of the 2022 season and there were fears that successive Leinster final losses to his native Kilkenny and All-Ireland semi-final defeats to Limerick might see him depart.
But Galway GAA chairman Paul Bellew said that Shefflin has confirmed he is remaining on board and now both parties are looking at extending the term beyond the initial three-year deal.
“Henry is on board for next year and we are looking at extending it beyond that. Henry has indicated a willingness for that and so have we, so now it’s a matter of finding a mutually acceptable agreement. But it’s great he is on board and will continue the work carried out so far,” said Bellew.
Shefflin’s confirmation of remaining for a third year does not require ratification but an extension of his term would need to come before a meeting of the county committee.
“We would hope to have it all wrapped up for the August meeting of the county committee. The four manager positions at U17 and U20 in football and hurling are all open as well as each of the managers have come to the end of their term,” added Bellew.
The Galway chairman also confirmed that Pádraic Joyce has confirmed he will remain in charge of the county’s footballers in 2024. He is going into the second season of a three-year deal, having last summer completed his first term after being appointed for the 2020 season.
“The 2023 inter-county season came to an end on Sunday so it’s good to have our senior managers in place and begin preparations for 2024. Hopefully, we will have our underage managers in place in due course and go from there,” added Bellew.
