Heineken Cup: Ulster's quarter final will be in Twickenham after all

Saracens have decided not to host the game at their brand spanking new £24M stadium.

HERE’S THE PLAN, Ulster.

Saracens have today confirmed that Twickenham will be the venue for their Heineken Cup quarter final date with Ulster on April 6.

The Premiership club has just made tentative steps into a new £24 million home with an artificial playing surface, but will instead stage the game in the larger capacity ‘home of English rugby’.

“We did consider the option of playing this show-piece match at Allianz Park, our brand new home stadium in NW4,” said club chairman Nigel Wray in a statement.

“But, in consultation with local residents and our partners at the London Borough of Barnet, we have decided to settle at the new venue before applying to stage a one-off event with a larger capacity.”

The game will be a return for Ulster, who lost out in May’s Heineken Cup final at the same venue.

“It is absolutely clear,” Wray added, “that people want to see big teams playing big matches at big stadiums, and that is precisely what we will deliver at Twickenham.”
